Be honest about your skill
A first wheel should be slow and light: you will drop it, and a wheel that can do 40 mph will, eventually, at the wrong moment. Our data rates every wheel for a skill level; start at beginner unless you already ride.

Decide how you will use it
Commuting rewards range per pound and a trolley handle. Touring rewards battery. Off-road wants suspension and a wide tyre. Speed wheels are a different sport.

Pick a wheel size
14 to 16 inches is nimble and portable; 18 to 20 is the all-rounder; 22 inches is for speed and stability at the cost of weight.
